KAENA BROWN "THE BROWN EYED GIRL"

Aloha, my name is Ka Lae O Ka Ena (To go forth glowing with wisdom) Brown, people call me Kaena (Kah-eh-nah), for short aka "The Brown Eyed Girl". I was born on Maui, August 23, 1980. My Parents are Kevin and Joleen Brown. I have to older brothers, Corey and Keola (Kimi: Hulali, Kilohana and Ka'iulani) and one younger brother Ikaika (Tereva). I was raised in Wailuku and loved it there so much that I still live in the Wailuku area. I come from a musical family. My dad and youngest brother have been playing music (slack key) as a father and son duo for about 12 years and counting. I tag along with them and sing when I can. I love spending time with my family and friends, singing, animals, shopping, going to the beach, reading, watching movies and most of all helping others.

I've always loved music, but I never took the time to learn how to really play any instrument(s), I was to busy climbing guava trees when my "pops" was giving lessons. Playing other people's music over the radio was the closest I was going to get to being a musician. So, when I was in High School I was assigned to career shadow someone. I chose KPOA's, uncle Boy Kanae, "The Maui Hawaiian Supah Man". The year was now 1998 and at that time the radio station was located at 505 Front Street, in Lahaina. That day, on the radio Uncle Boy held a contest. We were on the hunt for my radio name. Like always, we turned to our awesome KPOA listener for help. After hours of people calling in and giving me all types of names. Boom! It happened, a faithful KPOA listener, Pohai said, "The Brown Eyed Girl" and like peanut butter and jelly it stuck with me for about 7 years now and still counting. For the first couple of years I did the weekend show and filled in throughout the week day when needed. In the year 2001, I took a break to pursue another one of my passions, law enforcement. I went to recruit school, graduated and became a police officer for the Maui County Police Department. As soon as I could I came back to KPOA, this time as an "on-call" DJ. So you'll never know when you're going to hear me. So your best bet would be to leave your radio/internet to KPOA 93.5 fm, all day everyday. To complicate things for fun I went and got my real estate license. So now I'm a full-time Police Officer, a part time real estate agent for Aina Maui Properties, On-Call DJ for KPOA 93.5 fm, and a singer when I have the time.

So you know about my family life, my professional life and now onto my personal life. I enjoy being an aunty. I have two nieces, Hulali and Ka'iulani and one nephew, Kilohana. I'm not married, no children. I'd like to someday get married and have a small family. For now I'm still waiting for my "prince charming" to come and sweep me off my feet.

Well folks that's the story of me, I hope you enjoyed it. Keep your radio dials and computers to KPOA and I'll see yah, when I see yah! To all of Maui's finest (MPD) Districts 1 through 6, be safe out there and take care of each other and I'll see yah on the beat!!

Humbly Yours,

Kaena Brown
